John D. Lloyd, Ph.D., M.Erg.S., CPE
Professional Experience: Dr. Lloyd is Director over all Research Laboratories for the Tampa VA RR&D REAP as well as an Associate Director of the Technology Division for the VISN8 Patient Safety Center of Inquiry. He is also an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Florida, where he mentors Masters and Doctoral students. Dr. Lloyd has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on several funded research projects through VA HSR&D and RR&D services and has authored more than 70 book chapters, publications, open-literature articles and technical reports. He serves on the VA National Ergonomics Committee as well as Chairs a task force at the Patient Safety Center.
Educational Background: Dr. Lloyd received his Ph.D. in Ergonomics from Loughborough University, England. He has also achieved the distinctions of Certified Professional Ergonomist (#725), and is a member of the Ergonomics Society’s professional register. Other memberships include the International Ergonomics Association.
Research Interests: Dr. Lloyd has served on a variety of exciting research projects, focusing on the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders through biomechanical evaluation and development of engineering solutions. John has recently been working on the development of a whole-body biomechanical model for analysis of dynamic human motion. This new technology has been utilized to describe the biomechanical stressors acting on upper extremity joints in persons with paraplegia during independent transfers.
